16. Pitfall

I was out driving one night when I got a request for a ride to that main airport at 3am. It was only midnight, so I decided to go home and take a nap until I needed to pick the passenger up.

I woke up, had a 5-hour energy, and headed off to get the passenger. I was two minutes from the pick-up location when I was notified that the ride had been canceled.

WTF. I stayed up for the next few hours hoping for all the rides I missed by going back home and taking a nap… not bloody likely. The 3a - 5a was always pretty quiet. And tonight, especially so. It did not make up for my missed time. The drunks were all home and passed out in their beds.

And so there I was, wired and unable to sleep, as well as super annoyed and frustrated that someone would cancel at the last possible minute. Why didn’t they cancel two hours earlier before I had the energy shot and when I could have stayed on the road or gone to bed?!?

ARRRRRGH.

One of the pitfalls of ride-sharing that I got to learn tonight.

61. Their minds on their money and their money on their minds

Most of my day rides are pretty boring… people don’t tend to talk. They just want to get where they are going and have not had their tongues...
