Tonight, I picked up two young ladies who were going downtown to meet up with friends for drinks. They talked about the friends for a while and who they liked and who liked who and who they didn’t like and yada yada and none of it was interesting to me.
But then one of them said they were totally into Avatar
these days and my ears perked up. I haven’t seen The Way of Water or Walking
on Water or whatever it is called but I wasn’t a fan of the first one. I
groaned in my head. They kept talking and I realized they weren’t talking about
the movies but were referring to the animated series. Now I really I started
listening as my inner nerd alarm went off.
They loved the show (as do I) and talked about their
favorite characters and what they meant to them. They thought that they were
written so well and it’s the writing that gave the characters such depth. One
of the young women mentioned that the writing is why she loves Squidward from “SpongeBob
SquarePants”. She feels so sorry for him but thinks he is brilliant.
As we pulled up to their stop, they thanked me for the
ride and I told the young lady that Squidward was my spirit animal and did my
impersonation of him. They laughed out loud and thought my impersonation was
spot on.
I drove off and my app showed me they gave me a 50% tip.
She must have really loved my Squidward impersonation.
